Getting married in Tuscany
Tuscany is the reason a lot of couples start thinking about Italy in the first place.
Rolling hills, cypress-lined driveways, stone farmhouses that have been standing for centuries, and long tables under the trees that fill up as the afternoon turns into evening.
It's a region built for the kind of intimate wedding with your favourite people around you. Exactly the time of weddings I love filming.
Where couples get married here
Wedding weekends here often centre on a private villa or 'agriturismo' (small family run hotels), somewhere everyone can stay for a few days rather than just turning up on the day.
I've filmed at Castello di Petrata, Tenuta Corbinaia and a number of family-run estates across the Val d'Orcia and Chianti.
Florence and Siena both offer civil ceremonies in genuinely beautiful municipal settings if you want a town ceremony before heading into the countryside.
Filming a wedding in Tuscany
The light is the thing here. Late afternoon in Tuscany does something to the hills that's hard to describe and very easy to film, so I'll usually suggest keeping a short window free around golden hour, even just fifteen minutes.
Villa weddings also tend to run across several days, with welcome dinners, pool afternoons and day-after lunches, which is where multi-day coverage earns its keep — often those relaxed in-between moments are the ones you'll rewatch most.
